7 Zombie Costume Ideas that Separate You from the Horde
Posted by Fantasy Costumes Staff on 12th May 2016
So you want to dress up like a Zombie but you don’t want to be another general, run of the mill zombie.
You want a unique zombie experience that will let you enjoy a night out while proving you not only eat brains, but you have them too.
Here are some ideas to help inspire you into making an original and fun Zombie costume that you can wear to your next Zombie themed event.
Bill Nye the Zombie Guy
Take everyone’s favourite bow-tie wearing science teacher and give him a rougher edge. All you need is a lab coat and a bow tie and of course your favourite Zombie makeup and you have a clever costume that will make everyone nostalgic.
Zom-Bee
Who doesn’t love a good play on words? Some black and yellow clothes, wings and antenna and you have yourself a costume that will get you all the buzz. Make sure you make all your zombie scarring look like you were stung a bunch so that you can claim you were attacked by all your bee friends after the epidemic took out your queen.
Pride & Prejudice & Zombies
Why not take advantage of this already popular book and make it work for you? You can even make it a couples costume by dressing up as Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy both turned into zombies. Nothing says romance like an infectious disease that you spread to others by biting them. Get some old fashioned looking clothes, maybe a wig or two and when paired up with your zombie makeup (more on this below) you will look great.
Plants vs. Zombies
This one will take a lot of creativity and maybe a bit more explanation, but if you are up for the challenge, why not dress up as a mashup of the popular video game “Plants versus Zombies”. You need to dress in green, maybe make yourself a flower based top, or headdress or go for a more tree-based vibe with a simple leafy headband. Then you need your makeup, and the confidence to explain that you are a zombie plant. I have faith in you, you can do this.
Presidential Race
As the candidates continue to fight each other over every word spoken, why not show how scary politicians really are by zombi-fying them. Zombie-Donald Trump, Zombie-Hilary Clinton, Zombie-Bernie Sanders, Zombie-Ted Cruz, or even go vintage with a Zombie-Lincoln who could spend his evening shaking his head at how ridiculous the media circus called politics really is. Endless options if you go political with your costume, and if you want, you and your friends can team up and be all the past presidents together.
Back from the Dead - TV Edition
A lot of things have either come back, or are coming back soon. Full House made its resurgence with Fuller House on Netflix, so you could always revisit some of your favourite characters like Uncle Jesse, whose perfect hair made everyone jealous, or if you want to take it a bit more eccentric, why not were some brightly coloured clothes and be a zombie Kimmy Gibbler? Certainly would be Danny Tanner’s worst nightmare.
A Galaxy Far Far Away
**Potential Star Wars Episode 7 spoilers** (but if you haven’t seen it by this point you probably don’t care too much)
Why not dress up as the recently deceased Han Solo? You can even purchase a lightsaber (or make if you are good with a DIY - some paper towel roles and red construction paper is all you’d need) and have it stuck through your poor sweet heart and out the other side.
Zombie Makeup Tips
So you have the perfect base for your costume that makes you feel really clever, but how do you make it look like a Zombie? Don’t worry, it isn’t too hard!
Here is what you are going to need:
Fake Blood
Fake blood is an inexpensive way to go from good to gruesome in a heartbeat. Apply liberally and excessively.
Wounds and dead eyes
Make sure your eyes look like you havent slept in three years, your face should be full of some sort of injuries and it helps if you can glue on some items related to your manner of death. You can also use the pre-made gashes to give a really graphic look to your zombie costume.
The most important thing you can do for your costume is have fun with it. It isn’t rocket science, it’s science fiction. Make sure you enjoy yourself and pick something that you are going to be proud of even if it is silly. Happy Costuming!
